Scr."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2025,1,1]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>Abstract<\/jats:title>\n               <jats:p>A series of oxyfluorophosphate glasses with the composition (60-<jats:italic>x<\/jats:italic>) P<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>5<\/jats:sub> + 10 BiF<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub> +10 MgO + 10 ZnO + 10 KF + <jats:italic>x<\/jats:italic>Er<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub> (0 \u2264 <jats:italic>x<\/jats:italic> \u2265 2.0 mol%) were prepared using conventional melt quenching method. The amorphous phase of studied glass samples was examined through powder x-ray diffraction. The optical properties were determined using UV\u2013vis-NIR absorption, photoluminescence excitation and emission spectra. The radiative properties were determined using Judd\u2013Ofelt and Fuchtbauer-Ladenburg theories. The optimal Er<jats:sup>3+<\/jats:sup> doping concentration for efficient emission was determined by analysing the emission spectra under 377 nm excitation. The emission spectra of studied glasses exhibited characteristic emission bands of Er<jats:sup>3+<\/jats:sup> ions corresponding to the <jats:sup>2<\/jats:sup>H<jats:sub>11\/2<\/jats:sub> \u2192 <jats:sup>4<\/jats:sup>I<jats:sub>15\/2<\/jats:sub> (529 nm), <jats:sup>4<\/jats:sup>S<jats:sub>3\/2<\/jats:sub> \u2192 <jats:sup>4<\/jats:sup>I<jats:sub>15\/2<\/jats:sub> (545 nm) and <jats:sup>4<\/jats:sup>F<jats:sub>9\/2<\/jats:sub> \u2192 <jats:sup>4<\/jats:sup>I<jats:sub>15\/2<\/jats:sub> (684 nm) transitions. At higher Er<jats:sup>3+<\/jats:sup> doping levels, the emission bands shift towards longer wavelengths showing a red shift. Upon 980 nm excitation for upconversion, the Er<jats:sup>3+<\/jats:sup> ions emitted intense green luminescence through the <jats:sup>4<\/jats:sup>S<jats:sub>3\/2<\/jats:sub> \u2192 <jats:sup>4<\/jats:sup>I<jats:sub>15\/2<\/jats:sub> (545 nm) transition. The applicability of studied glasses for the fabrication of green laser sources was discussed.
