We explore the role of upcoming gravitational wave observations in investigating possible deviations from the distance duality relation, alongside the more commonly used supernovae. We find that, when combined with baryon acoustic oscillations, gravitational waves will provide similar constraining power to the combination of baryon acoustic oscillations and supernovae. Moreover, the combination of observables with different sensitivities to electromagnetic and gravitational physics provides a promising way to discriminate among different physical mechanisms that could lead to violations of the distance duality relation.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1088\/1475-7516\/2025\/11\/001","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,11,4]],"date-time":"2025-11-04T17:13:43Z","timestamp":1762276423000},"page":"001","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1088\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":1,"title":["Distinguishing distance duality breaking models using electromagnetic and gravitational waves measurements"],"prefix":"10.1088","volume":"2025","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0009-0009-1175-213X","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Chiara","family":"De Leo","sequence":"first","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Matteo","family":"Martinelli","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-2342-1134","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Rocco","family":"D'Agostino","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-8427-273X","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Giulia","family":"Gianfagna","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-4886-9261","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"C.J.A.P.","family":"Martins","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"266","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2025,11,4]]},"reference":[{"key":"b6d685ba3824a15b66f2728f9b2f2dce6","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1103\/PhysRevLett.116.061102","type":"journal-article","article-title":"Observation of Gravitational Waves from a Binary Black Hole Merger","volume":"116","author":"LIGO Scientific, Virgo Collaboration","year":"2016","journal-title":"Phys.
