Inst."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2022,2,1]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>Abstract<\/jats:title>\n               <jats:p>We propose an alternative approach for the detection of fast\n  neutrons in the energy range from 10<jats:sup>-4<\/jats:sup> to 5 MeV based on\n  <jats:sup>10<\/jats:sup>B-RPCs (hybrid double-gap Resistive Plate Chambers with\n  <jats:sup>10<\/jats:sup>B<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub>C neutron converters) surrounded by a polyethylene\n  moderator. The detection efficiency as a function of the neutron\n  energy is obtained in Monte Carlo simulations performed with the\n  Geant4 toolkit for several detector configurations. The thickness of\n  the neutron converter is optimized for the maximum efficiency. The\n  results show that for this type of detector it is possible to obtain\n  an average detection efficiency larger than 50% with a weak\n  dependence on the neutron energy.
