Inst."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2024,11,1]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>Abstract<\/jats:title>\n               <jats:p>Using CaWO<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub> crystals as cryogenic calorimeters, the\n  CRESST experiment searches for nuclear recoils caused by the\n  scattering of potential Dark Matter particles. A reliable\n  identification of a potential signal crucially depends on an\n  accurate background model. In this work, we introduce an improved\n  normalisation method for CRESST's model of electromagnetic\n  backgrounds, which is an important technical step towards developing\n  a more accurate background model. Spectral templates based on Geant4\n  simulations are normalised via a Bayesian likelihood fit to\n  experimental background data. Contrary to our previous work, no\n  explicit assumption of partial secular equilibrium is required a\n  priori, which results in a more robust and versatile applicability.\n  This new method also naturally considers the correlation between all\n  background components. Due to these purely technical improvements,\n  the presented method has the potential to explain up to 82.7 % of\n  the experimental background within [1 keV,40 keV],\n  an improvement of at most 18.6 % compared to our previous\n  method. The actual value is subject to ongoing validations of the\n  included physics.
