{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2026,5,4]],"date-time":"2026-05-04T14:27:33Z","timestamp":1777904853793,"version":"3.51.4"},"reference-count":0,"publisher":"SAGE Publications","issue":"2","license":[{"start":{"date-parts":[[2004,6,1]],"date-time":"2004-06-01T00:00:00Z","timestamp":1086048000000},"content-version":"tdm","delay-in-days":0,"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/page\/policies\/text-and-data-mining-license"}],"content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":["Microbial Drug Resistance"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2004,6]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>\n                    A large number (272) of methicillin-resistant\n                    <jats:italic toggle=\"yes\">Staphylococcus aureus<\/jats:italic>\n                    (MRSA) isolates recovered from Italian hospitals during the early and late 1990s were characterized for multidrug resistance pattern and clonal type using a combination of genotyping methods, including pulsed-field \ngel electrophoresis (PFGE),\n                    <jats:italic toggle=\"yes\">spaA<\/jats:italic>\n                    typing, multilocus sequence typing (MLST), determination of SCC\n                    <jats:italic toggle=\"yes\">mec<\/jats:italic>\n                    type, and hybridization pattern with Tn\n                    <jats:italic toggle=\"yes\">554<\/jats:italic>\n                    . The majority of MRSA belonged to four genetic lineages: the pandemic Iberian and Brazilian clones, and two unique clonal \ntypes\u2014the \"Italian\" and \"Rome\" clones of MRSA. The Italian clone carried the SCC\n                    <jats:italic toggle=\"yes\">mec<\/jats:italic>\n                    type I in the genetic background of ST228, which is a double-locus variant of the sequence type of the multidrug-resistant New York\/Japanese clone (ST5).
