We conducted a literature review to identify how AI is both exploited to create and spread misleading information and harnessed to combat it. Our thorough analysis of the intersection of these AI techniques with the recently enacted European Union Artificial Intelligence Act provides a novel legislation-based perspective currently missing in the AI literature.
