To demonstrate the integrity and quality of their qualitative research, authors should report important elements of their work. This perspective article offers guidance about reporting components of the research, including theory, the research question, sampling, data collection methods, data analysis, results, and discussion. Addressing these points in the paper assists peer reviewers and readers in assessing the rigor of the work and its contribution to the literature. Clearer and more detailed reporting will ensure that qualitative research will continue to be published in informatics, helping researchers disseminate their understanding of people, organizations, context, and sociotechnical relationships as they relate to biomedical and health data.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1093\/jamia\/ocab195","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2021,9,8]],"date-time":"2021-09-08T11:36:27Z","timestamp":1631100987000},"page":"2743-2748","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":61,"title":["Guidance for publishing qualitative research in informatics"],"prefix":"10.1093","volume":"28","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-3859-9130","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Jessica S","family":"Ancker","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Biomedical Informatics, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tennessee, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-3256-0243","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Natalie C","family":"Benda","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Population Health Sciences, Weill Cornell Medicine, New York, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Madhu","family":"Reddy","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Informatics, University of California, Irvine, Irvine, California, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Kim M","family":"Unertl","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Biomedical Informatics, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tennessee, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-1200-9515","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Tiffany","family":"Veinot","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Information, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"286","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2021,9,19]]},"reference":[{"issue":"2","key":"2021120106305354100_ocab195-B1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"402","DOI":"10.1093\/jamia\/ocaa179","article-title":"A scoping review of qualitative research in JAMIA: past contributions and opportunities for future work","volume":"28","author":"Hussain","year":"2021","journal-title":"J Am Med Inform Assoc"},{"issue":"1","key":"2021120106305354100_ocab195-B2","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"274","DOI":"10.1080\/13814788.2017.1375090","article-title":"Series: practical guidance to qualitative research.
