If we consider preferences among groups of agents, deliberation often leads to changes in preferences of an agent, influenced by the opinions of others, depending on how reliable these agents are according to the agent under consideration. Sometimes, it also leads to changes in the opposite direction, i.e. reliability over agents gets updated depending on their preferences. There are various formal studies of preference change based on reliability and\/or trust, but not the other way around\u2014this work contributes to the formal study of the latter aspect, i.e. on reliability change based on agent preferences. In process, some policies of preference change based on agent reliabilities are also discussed. We introduce a novel formal study of the relevant changes in agent reliabilities in decision-making scenarios, which is an integral part of artificial intelligence studies in the current day. A two-dimensional hybrid language is proposed to describe such processes, and axiomatizations and decidability are discussed.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1093\/logcom\/exab066","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2021,10,15]],"date-time":"2021-10-15T23:42:42Z","timestamp":1634341362000},"page":"518-553","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Rely more or less, for better or for worse: Intertwining reliability and preferences"],"prefix":"10.1093","volume":"32","author":[{"given":"Sujata","family":"Ghosh","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Computer Science Unit, Indian Statistical Institute, Chennai 600029, India"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Katsuhiko","family":"Sano","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, Faculty of Humanities and Human Sciences, Hokkaido University, Sapporo, 060-0810, Japan"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"286","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2021,11,12]]},"reference":[{"key":"2022041208375718800_ref1","first-page":"821","article-title":"Hybrid logics","volume-title":"Handbook of Modal Logics","author":"Areces","year":"2006"},{"key":"2022041208375718800_ref2","article-title":"Handbook of Social Choice and Welfare","author":"Arrow","year":"2002"},{"key":"2022041208375718800_ref3","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","DOI":"10.1017\/CBO9781107050884","article-title":"Modal logic","volume-title":"Cambridge Tracts in Theoretical Computer Science","author":"Blackburn","year":"2001"},{"key":"2022041208375718800_ref4","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"277","DOI":"10.1007\/s11225-006-9009-6","article-title":"Pure extensions, proof rules, and hybrid axiomatics","volume":"84","author":"Blackburn","year":"2006","journal-title":"Studia Logica"},{"key":"2022041208375718800_ref5","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"87","DOI":"10.1016\/0004-3702(94)90096-5","article-title":"Conditional logics of normality: a modal approach","volume":"68","author":"Boutilier","year":"1994","journal-title":"Artificial Intelligence"},{"key":"2022041208375718800_ref6","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"109","DOI":"10.1016\/j.jmateco.2014.01.002","article-title":"Weighted distances between preferences","volume":"51","author":"Can","year":"2014","journal-title":"Journal of Mathematical Economics"},{"key":"2022041208375718800_ref7","article-title":"Being friends with a brexiter","volume-title":"Philosophers On.
