Since 2005, the Galaxy project has fostered a global community focused on achieving accessible, reproducible, and collaborative research. Together, this community develops the Galaxy software framework, integrates analysis tools and visualizations into the framework, runs public servers that make Galaxy available via a web browser, performs and publishes analyses using Galaxy, leads bioinformatics workshops that introduce and use Galaxy, and develops interactive training materials for Galaxy. Over the last two years, all aspects of the Galaxy project have grown: code contributions, tools integrated, users, and training materials. Key advances in Galaxy's user interface include enhancements for analyzing large dataset collections as well as interactive tools for exploratory data analysis. Extensions to Galaxy's framework include support for federated identity and access management and increased ability to distribute analysis jobs to remote resources. New community resources include large public servers in Europe and Australia, an increasing number of regional and local Galaxy communities, and substantial growth in the Galaxy Training Network.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1093\/nar\/gkaa434","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2020,5,12]],"date-time":"2020-05-12T03:09:45Z","timestamp":1589252985000},"page":"W395-W402","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":463,"title":["The Galaxy platform for accessible, reproducible and collaborative biomedical analyses: 2020 update"],"prefix":"10.1093","volume":"48","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-4986-2157","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Vahid","family":"Jalili","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Biomedical Engineering, Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, OR, USA"}]},{"given":"Enis","family":"Afgan","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Biology, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, USA"}]},{"given":"Qiang","family":"Gu","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Biomedical Engineering, Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, OR, USA"}]},{"given":"Dave","family":"Clements","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Biology, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, USA"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-6833-9049","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Daniel","family":"Blankenberg","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Genomic Medicine Institute, Lerner Research Institute, Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH, USA"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-4583-5226","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Jeremy","family":"Goecks","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Biomedical Engineering, Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, OR, USA"}]},{"given":"James","family":"Taylor","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Biology, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, USA"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-5987-8032","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Anton","family":"Nekrutenko","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Penn State University, University Park, PA, USA"}]}],"member":"286","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2020,6,1]]},"reference":[{"key":"2020063007035275300_B1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"403","DOI":"10.1186\/gb4161","article-title":"Dissemination of scientific software with Galaxy ToolShed","volume":"15","author":"Blankenberg","year":"2014","journal-title":"Genome Biol."},{"key":"2020063007035275300_B2","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"550","DOI":"10.1186\/s13059-014-0550-8","article-title":"Moderated estimation of fold change and dispersion for RNA-seq data with DESeq2","volume":"15","author":"Love","year":"2014","journal-title":"Genome Biol."},{"key":"2020063007035275300_B3","first-page":"87","article-title":"Jupyter Notebooks-a publishing format for reproducible computational workflows","volume-title":"Proceedings of the 20th International Conference on Electronic Publishing","author":"Kluyver","year":"2016"},{"key":"2020063007035275300_B4","first-page":"640","volume-title":"RStudio: integrated development for R","author":"Rstudio Team and Others","year":"2015"},{"key":"2020063007035275300_B5","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"e1005425","DOI":"10.1371\/journal.pcbi.1005425","article-title":"Jupyter and Galaxy: Easing entry barriers into complex data analyses for biomedical researchers","volume":"13","author":"Gr\u00fcning","year":"2017","journal-title":"PLoS Comput.
