{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2024,6,1]],"date-time":"2024-06-01T11:40:16Z","timestamp":1717242016445},"reference-count":6,"publisher":"Ovid Technologies (Wolters Kluwer Health)","issue":"3","content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":["J Low Genit Tract Dis"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2020,7]]},"abstract":"\n Objective<\/jats:title>\n The aim of the study was to compare the International Classification of Diseases, 11th revision,<\/jats:italic> (ICD-11<\/jats:italic>) with current terminology of vulvodynia, approved by a broad-based consensus of the International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Disease (ISSVD), the International Society for the Study of Women Sexual Health (ISSWSH), and the International Pelvic Pain Society (IPPS).<\/jats:p>\n <\/jats:sec>\n \n Methods<\/jats:title>\n The diagnostic criteria and descriptions of vulvodynia as well as the definition and classification of chronic pain in ICD-11<\/jats:italic> were reviewed and compared with the Consensus Terminology and Classification of Persistent Vulvar Pain and Vulvodynia, endorsed in 2015 by the ISSVD, ISSWSH, and IPPS.<\/jats:p>\n <\/jats:sec>\n \n Results<\/jats:title>\n Diagnostic criteria and descriptors of vulvodynia in the ICD-11<\/jats:italic> are outdated. Moreover, vulvodynia is not identified among chronic pain diagnoses, despite fulfilling the diagnostic criteria of chronic primary pain. Specifically, vulvodynia is a vulvar pain of at least 3-month duration, which is associated with significant emotional distress and functional disability, and is not better accounted for by another specific condition.<\/jats:p>\n <\/jats:sec>\n \n Conclusions<\/jats:title>\n The ICD-11<\/jats:italic> is not aligned with current vulvodynia diagnostic criteria and terminology, approved by the ISSVD, ISSWSH, and IPPS.
