{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2025,8,15]],"date-time":"2025-08-15T01:26:04Z","timestamp":1755221164463,"version":"3.43.0"},"reference-count":24,"publisher":"Ovid Technologies (Wolters Kluwer Health)","issue":"9","content-domain":{"domain":["lww.com","ovid.com"],"crossmark-restriction":true},"short-container-title":["Otol Neurotol"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2024,10]]},"abstract":"<jats:sec>\n            <jats:title>Objective<\/jats:title>\n            <jats:p>To analyze the correlation between outcomes of stapes surgery and preoperative and postoperative audiometric results with different radiological staging classifications such as the Veillon classification (VC) and the Symons\u2013Fanning classification (SFC).<\/jats:p>\n          <\/jats:sec>\n          <jats:sec>\n            <jats:title>Study Design<\/jats:title>\n            <jats:p>Retrospective observational study.<\/jats:p>\n          <\/jats:sec>\n          <jats:sec>\n            <jats:title>Setting<\/jats:title>\n            <jats:p>One tertiary hospital center.<\/jats:p>\n          <\/jats:sec>\n          <jats:sec>\n            <jats:title>Patients<\/jats:title>\n            <jats:p>Adult patients submitted to stapes surgery due to otosclerosis from January 2017 to December 2022.<\/jats:p>\n          <\/jats:sec>\n          <jats:sec>\n            <jats:title>Intervention<\/jats:title>\n            <jats:p>Evaluation of different radiological classifications such as the VC and SFC.<\/jats:p>\n          <\/jats:sec>\n          <jats:sec>\n            <jats:title>Main Outcome Measures<\/jats:title>\n            <jats:p>Preoperative and postoperative pure-tone audiometric data, outcomes of stapes surgery success (closure of the ABG, rates of AC threshold less than or equal to 30 dB), and postoperative sensorineural hearing loss.<\/jats:p>\n          <\/jats:sec>\n          <jats:sec>\n            <jats:title>Results<\/jats:title>\n            <jats:p>A total of 87 patients and 97 operated ears were included. The SFC was associated with preoperative BC (<jats:italic toggle=\"yes\">p<\/jats:italic> = 0.041) and AC (<jats:italic toggle=\"yes\">p<\/jats:italic> = 0.018) and postoperative BC (<jats:italic toggle=\"yes\">p<\/jats:italic> = 0.026) with an increase in thresholds with higher radiological stages. The VC was associated with postoperative AC (<jats:italic toggle=\"yes\">p<\/jats:italic> = 0.045) with an increase in AC thresholds with increasing radiological stages. Lastly, both the VC (<jats:italic toggle=\"yes\">p<\/jats:italic> = 0.032) and the SFC (<jats:italic toggle=\"yes\">p<\/jats:italic> = 0.023) were associated with a decrease in rates of postoperative AC thresholds \u226430 dB with higher radiological stages.<\/jats:p>\n          <\/jats:sec>\n          <jats:sec>\n            <jats:title>Conclusions<\/jats:title>\n            <jats:p>The SFC seems to be more useful to predict preoperative AC and BC and postoperative BC. On the contrary, the VC was more useful to predict postoperative AC.
