{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2026,6,6]],"date-time":"2026-06-06T05:09:14Z","timestamp":1780722554348,"version":"3.54.1"},"reference-count":18,"publisher":"Microbiology Society","issue":"6","content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":[],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2007,6,1]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>\n                  <jats:italic>Pseudomonas chlororaphis<\/jats:italic>, <jats:italic>Pseudomonas aureofaciens<\/jats:italic> and <jats:italic>Pseudomonas aurantiaca<\/jats:italic> were considered as separate species until 1989, when <jats:italic>P. aureofaciens<\/jats:italic> was proposed as a later heterotypic synonym of <jats:italic>P. chlororaphis<\/jats:italic> with <jats:italic>P. aurantiaca<\/jats:italic> remaining as a separate species. Nevertheless, analysis of the almost complete 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that the type strain of <jats:italic>P. aurantiaca<\/jats:italic>, NCIMB 10068<jats:sup>T<\/jats:sup>, shows gene sequence similarities close to 99.5\u200a% with respect to <jats:italic>P. chlororaphis<\/jats:italic> DSM 50083<jats:sup>T<\/jats:sup> and <jats:italic>P. aureofaciens<\/jats:italic> DSM 6698<jats:sup>T<\/jats:sup>. DNA\u2013DNA hybridization experiments among strains of <jats:italic>P. aurantiaca<\/jats:italic>, <jats:italic>P. chlororaphis<\/jats:italic> and <jats:italic>P. aureofaciens<\/jats:italic> showed values higher than 70\u200a%, confirming that they represent members of the same species. The results of fatty acid analysis and phenotypic traits showed that these strains are closely related, although there are some differences among the strains belonging to <jats:italic>P. aurantiaca<\/jats:italic>, those from <jats:italic>P. chlororaphis<\/jats:italic> and those from <jats:italic>P. aureofaciens<\/jats:italic>. All these results confirm the previous reclassification of <jats:italic>P. aureofaciens<\/jats:italic> into <jats:italic>P. chlororaphis<\/jats:italic> and support the reclassification of <jats:italic>P. aurantiaca<\/jats:italic> as a synonym of <jats:italic>P. chlororaphis<\/jats:italic>. Phenotypic and molecular data permit the description of three novel subspecies within this last species, for which the following names are proposed: <jats:italic>P. chlororaphis<\/jats:italic> subsp. <jats:italic>chlororaphis<\/jats:italic> subsp. nov. [with the type strain DSM 50083<jats:sup>T<\/jats:sup> (=ATCC 9446<jats:sup>T<\/jats:sup>=NCIMB 9392<jats:sup>T<\/jats:sup>)], <jats:italic>P. chlororaphis<\/jats:italic> subsp. <jats:italic>aureofaciens<\/jats:italic> subsp. nov., comb. nov. [with the type strain DSM 6698<jats:sup>T<\/jats:sup> (=ATCC 13985<jats:sup>T<\/jats:sup>=NCIMB 9030<jats:sup>T<\/jats:sup>)] and <jats:italic>P. chlororaphis<\/jats:italic> subsp. <jats:italic>aurantiaca<\/jats:italic> subsp. nov., comb. nov.
