{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2025,11,14]],"date-time":"2025-11-14T17:07:33Z","timestamp":1763140053895,"version":"3.30.2"},"reference-count":26,"publisher":"Microbiology Society","issue":"3","content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":[],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2004,5,1]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>A Gram-positive, molinate-degrading bacterium, strain ON4<jats:sup>T<\/jats:sup>(=DSM 13485<jats:sup>T<\/jats:sup>=LMG 21909<jats:sup>T<\/jats:sup>), was isolated from a mixed bacterial culture able to mineralize the herbicide molinate. The strain was strictly aerobic, oxidase- and catalase-positive and non-acid-fast, with a growth temperature of 10\u201341\u200a\u00b0C. It contained the major menaquinone MK-9 and a cell-wall peptidoglycan based on<jats:sc>d<\/jats:sc>-ornithine. 16S rDNA sequence analysis revealed that the strain formed a distinct line of descent in the family<jats:italic>Microbacteriaceae<\/jats:italic>, showing the highest 16S rDNA similarity (\u223c95\u200a%) to members of the genus<jats:italic>Curtobacterium<\/jats:italic>and \u2018<jats:italic>Brevibacterium helvolum<\/jats:italic>\u2019 DSM 20419 (=ATCC 13715). The latter was reported to have the cell-wall peptidoglycan type B2<jats:italic>\u03b3<\/jats:italic>and the major menaquinone MK-9, which are typical of<jats:italic>Clavibacter<\/jats:italic>, but it is clearly separated from this genus at the phylogenetic level.
