This organism was aerobic and catalase- and oxidase-positive. It had an optimum growth temperature of about 35 \u00b0C and an optimum growth pH of about 8.0\u20138.5, and grew in medium with 0\u20139\u200a% (w\/v) NaCl. The cell-wall peptidoglycan was of the A1\u03b1 type, with <jats:sc>l<\/jats:sc>-lysine as the diagnostic diamino acid. The major respiratory quinone was menaquinone 7 (MK-7) and the major fatty acids were anteiso-C<jats:sub>15\u200a:\u200a0<\/jats:sub> (45.4\u200a%), iso-C<jats:sub>15\u200a:\u200a0<\/jats:sub> (22.0\u200a%) and anteiso-C<jats:sub>17\u200a:\u200a0<\/jats:sub> (11.2\u200a%). The genomic DNA G+C content was about 39.4 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain P9<jats:sup>T<\/jats:sup> was most closely related to <jats:italic>Jeotgalibacillus campisalis<\/jats:italic> DSM 18983<jats:sup>T<\/jats:sup> (96.8\u200a%) and <jats:italic>Jeotgalibacillus<\/jats:italic> \n                  <jats:italic>marinus<\/jats:italic> DSM 1297<jats:sup>T<\/jats:sup> (96.5\u200a%). These two recognized species formed a coherent cluster with strain P9<jats:sup>T<\/jats:sup> that was supported by a bootstrap value of 99\u200a%. On the basis of the phylogenetic analysis and physiological and biochemical characteristics, strain P9<jats:sup>T<\/jats:sup> (\u200a=\u200aDSM 23228<jats:sup>T<\/jats:sup>\u200a=\u200aLMG 25523<jats:sup>T<\/jats:sup>) represents a novel species of the genus <jats:italic>Jeotgalibacillus<\/jats:italic>, for which the name <jats:italic>Jeotgalibacillus soli<\/jats:italic> sp. nov. is
