Based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, these strains were related most closely to the type strain of <jats:named-content xmlns:xlink=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/1999\/xlink\" content-type=\"species\" xlink:type=\"simple\">\n                     <jats:ext-link ext-link-type=\"uri\" xlink:href=\"http:\/\/dx.doi.org\/10.1601\/nm.21261\" xlink:type=\"simple\">\n                        <jats:italic>Hydrotalea flava<\/jats:italic>\n                     <\/jats:ext-link>\n                  <\/jats:named-content> at a pairwise similarity of 95.7\u200a%. The two strains were orange-pigmented and formed non-motile, rod-shaped cells that stained Gram-negative and were aerobic and oxidase- and catalase-positive. The major fatty acids were iso-C<jats:sub>15\u200a:\u200a0<\/jats:sub>, iso-C<jats:sub>17\u200a:\u200a0<\/jats:sub> 3-OH and iso-C<jats:sub>16\u200a:\u200a0<\/jats:sub>. The major respiratory quinone was menaquinone 7. Based on phylogenetic, physiological and biochemical characteristics, these strains from the Azores are considered to represent a single novel species of the genus <jats:named-content xmlns:xlink=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/1999\/xlink\" content-type=\"genus\" xlink:type=\"simple\">\n                     <jats:ext-link ext-link-type=\"uri\" xlink:href=\"http:\/\/dx.doi.org\/10.1601\/nm.21260\" xlink:type=\"simple\">\n                        <jats:italic>Hydrotalea<\/jats:italic>\n                     <\/jats:ext-link>\n                  <\/jats:named-content>, for which the name <jats:italic>Hydrotalea sandarakina<\/jats:italic> sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is AF-51<jats:sup>T<\/jats:sup> (\u200a=\u200aDSM 23241<jats:sup>T<\/jats:sup>\u200a=\u200aLMG 25526<jats:sup>T<\/jats:sup>).
