{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2025,11,7]],"date-time":"2025-11-07T08:52:39Z","timestamp":1762505559354},"reference-count":31,"publisher":"Microbiology Society","issue":"2","content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":[],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2010,2,1]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis analysis of chromosomal single and double restriction profiles of 17 strains belonging to three genera of \u2018<jats:italic>Leuconostocaceae<\/jats:italic>\u2019 was done, resulting in physical and genetic maps for three <jats:italic>Fructobacillus<\/jats:italic>, six <jats:italic>Leuconostoc<\/jats:italic> and four <jats:italic>Weissella<\/jats:italic> strains. <jats:italic>Asc<\/jats:italic>I, I-<jats:italic>Ceu<\/jats:italic>I, <jats:italic>Not<\/jats:italic>I and <jats:italic>Sfi<\/jats:italic>I restriction enzymes were used together with Southern hybridization of selected probes to provide an assessment of genomic organization in different species. Estimated genome sizes varied from 1408\u2005kb to 1547\u2005kb in <jats:italic>Fructobacillus<\/jats:italic>, from 1644\u2005kb to 2133\u2005kb in <jats:italic>Leuconostoc<\/jats:italic> and from 1371\u2005kb to 2197\u2005kb in <jats:italic>Weissella<\/jats:italic>. Other genomic characteristics of interest were analysed, such as <jats:italic>oriC<\/jats:italic> and <jats:italic>terC<\/jats:italic> localization and <jats:italic>rrn<\/jats:italic> operon organization. The latter seems markedly different in <jats:italic>Weissella<\/jats:italic>, in both number and disposition in the chromosome. Comparisons of intra- and intergeneric features are discussed in the light of chromosome rearrangements and genomic
