The copper(II) coordination polymer poly[bis(\u03bc-azido-\u03ba<jats:sup>2<\/jats:sup><jats:italic>N<\/jats:italic><jats:sup>1<\/jats:sup>:<jats:italic>N<\/jats:italic><jats:sup>1<\/jats:sup>)(\u03bc<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub>-homophthalato-\u03ba<jats:sup>4<\/jats:sup><jats:italic>O<\/jats:italic>:<jats:italic>O<\/jats:italic>\u2032:<jats:italic>O<\/jats:italic>\u2032\u2032:<jats:italic>O<\/jats:italic>\u2032\u2032\u2032)bis(pyridine-\u03ba<jats:italic>N<\/jats:italic>)dicopper(II)], [Cu<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>(C<jats:sub>9<\/jats:sub>H<jats:sub>6<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub>)(N<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>)<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>(C<jats:sub>5<\/jats:sub>H<jats:sub>5<\/jats:sub>N)<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>]<jats:sub><jats:italic>n<\/jats:italic><\/jats:sub>, was synthesized from homophthalic acid (2-carboxyphenylacetic acid), pyridine and azide (N<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub><jats:sup>\u2212<\/jats:sup>) by a hydrothermal reaction. Single-crystal structure analysis indicated that it features a one-dimensional chain structure which is comprised of (\u03bc<jats:sub>1,1<\/jats:sub>-N<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub><jats:sup>\u2212<\/jats:sup>)(\u03bc-<jats:italic>syn<\/jats:italic>\u2013<jats:italic>syn<\/jats:italic>-COO<jats:sup>\u2212<\/jats:sup>)<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>- and (\u03bc<jats:sub>1,1<\/jats:sub>-N<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub><jats:sup>\u2212<\/jats:sup>)<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>-bridged tetranuclear Cu<jats:sup>II<\/jats:sup>units.
