The technological developments are related to new and emerging safety standards.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Findings<\/jats:title><jats:p>The development of safety\u2010related technology and new international and European standards have fundamentally changed the way in which safety is now being engineered in industry. The introduction of new standards and revision of others have allowed safety\u2010related systems to utilise \u201cstate of the art\u201d electronic, programmable, and network based technologies. New international standards are likely to include collaborative working with humans in the robotic workspace.
