{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2025,8,2]],"date-time":"2025-08-02T17:57:33Z","timestamp":1754157453800,"version":"3.41.2"},"reference-count":13,"publisher":"Emerald","issue":"1\/2","license":[{"start":{"date-parts":[[2009,2,13]],"date-time":"2009-02-13T00:00:00Z","timestamp":1234483200000},"content-version":"tdm","delay-in-days":0,"URL":"https:\/\/www.emerald.com\/insight\/site-policies"}],"content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":[],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2009,2,13]]},"abstract":"<jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Purpose<\/jats:title><jats:p>The purpose of this paper is to sketch the most valuable contribution of Dr Rose to the development of social cybernetics over the period 1975\u20101995.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Design\/methodology\/approach<\/jats:title><jats:p>The paper is based on an analysis of the proceedings of the sections on \u201cSocial Systems\u201d or \u201cSocial Cybernetics\u201d of the WOSC conferences from 1978 through 1991, and on an analysis of the entries of the Bibliography on Social Cybernetics (1998).<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Findings<\/jats:title><jats:p>The sections on \u201cSocial Systems\u201d of the International Congresses on Systems and Cybernetics, initiated by Dr Rose, provided in the period 1978\u20101995 the most important meeting point for social scientists aiming at the application of the cybernetic approach to social systems and social processes, and for cyberneticians wanting to use the principles of cybernetics for the analysis and solution of social problems.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Originality\/value<\/jats:title><jats:p>The paper shows how the journal <jats:italic>Kybernetes<\/jats:italic>, founded by Dr Rose, became the most frequently used publication medium of social cyberneticians: of the 184 papers on social cybernetics mentioned in this bibliography 76 (41 per cent) were published in <jats:italic>Kybernetes<\/jats:italic>, more than in any other journal in the domain of cybernetics or social science.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec>","DOI":"10.1108\/03684920910930268","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2009,2,22]],"date-time":"2009-02-22T00:29:57Z","timestamp":1235262597000},"page":"61-64","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["John Rose and the early years of sociocybernetics"],"prefix":"10.1108","volume":"38","author":[{"given":"Johannes","family":"van der Zouwen","sequence":"first","affiliation":[]},{"given":"R.","family":"Felix Geyer","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"140","reference":[{"key":"key2022020920434029900_b6","unstructured":"Beniger, J.R. and Nass, C.I.
