Sections of the original publication by Dr Rose are included.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Findings<\/jats:title><jats:p>Places in an historical context the concepts of the cyberneticians and systemists \u2013 of that time and re\u2010emphasizes their role in forming present day thinking.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Originality\/value<\/jats:title><jats:p>Forms part of the tributes paid to the role of Dr Rose and his contribution to these areas of research and development.
