{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2025,8,2]],"date-time":"2025-08-02T17:56:57Z","timestamp":1754157417445,"version":"3.41.2"},"reference-count":17,"publisher":"Emerald","issue":"7\/8","license":[{"start":{"date-parts":[[2009,8,7]],"date-time":"2009-08-07T00:00:00Z","timestamp":1249603200000},"content-version":"tdm","delay-in-days":0,"URL":"https:\/\/www.emerald.com\/insight\/site-policies"}],"content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":[],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2009,8,7]]},"abstract":"<jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Purpose<\/jats:title><jats:p>The purpose of this paper is to determine and evaluate resource allocation algorithms for mixed\u2010structure operation systems with unknown parameters characterized by experts using the formalism of <jats:italic>C<\/jats:italic>\u2010uncertain variables.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Design\/methodology\/approach<\/jats:title><jats:p>Aggregation and decomposition of mathematical models of operations, performed using analytical\u2010numerical optimization methods, lead to serial and parallel structures for which allocation algorithms are known. Evaluation of allocations carried out by means of a computer simulation.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Findings<\/jats:title><jats:p>Resource allocation problems for mixed\u2010structure operation systems may be solved by applying aggregation, decomposition and allocation algorithms determined for simple structures. Allocation algorithms based on <jats:italic>C<\/jats:italic>\u2010uncertain variables outperform these based on basic uncertain variables.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Research limitations\/implications<\/jats:title><jats:p>Application of the presented algorithms is limited to some mixed structures, however, the methodology used appears general enough to allow developing algorithms for other mixed structures.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Practical implications<\/jats:title><jats:p>The algorithms developed may be embedded into a knowledge\u2010based system supporting management\u2010level decisions concerning optimal distribution of limited financial resources.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Originality\/value<\/jats:title><jats:p>Originally determined rules for aggregation and decomposition, as well as resulting allocation algorithms.
