Special attention is to be given to the long\u2010term preservation project kopal, but prior developments, strategic implications and future scenarios will be addressed as well.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Design\/methodology\/approach<\/jats:title><jats:p>The paper is a narrative of the findings, that also describes the technical specification of kopal.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Findings<\/jats:title><jats:p>The current status of kopal development is presented, added by some remarks on potentials for further activities with regard to a digital preservation infrastructure.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Originality\/value<\/jats:title><jats:p>Kopal has been presented in other publications.
