Specifically, this paper looks to uncover whether library users will turn to library\u2010provided virtual space when there is a scarcity of physical space.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Design\/methodology\/approach<\/jats:title><jats:p>This project discusses the design of the physical and virtual environment, and then measures the use of this environment quantitatively over a 47\u2010month period (2005\u20102009).<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Findings<\/jats:title><jats:p>Results indicate that physical spaces for group collaboration are in very high demand, whereas virtual ones are not.
