{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2025,8,2]],"date-time":"2025-08-02T18:08:03Z","timestamp":1754158083796,"version":"3.41.2"},"reference-count":7,"publisher":"Emerald","issue":"1","license":[{"start":{"date-parts":[[2009,2,27]],"date-time":"2009-02-27T00:00:00Z","timestamp":1235692800000},"content-version":"tdm","delay-in-days":0,"URL":"https:\/\/www.emerald.com\/insight\/site-policies"}],"content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":[],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2009,2,27]]},"abstract":"<jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Purpose<\/jats:title><jats:p>This paper seeks to provide insights into the process of applying Lamb &amp; Kling's <jats:italic>user as<\/jats:italic> <jats:italic>social actor model<\/jats:italic> as an institutional lens to analyse data and to generate findings of IS practice.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Design\/methodology\/approach<\/jats:title><jats:p>The paper provides an example from a recently published research project why the social actor model was chosen, and an application of how the model was operationalised in data collection and analysis.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Findings<\/jats:title><jats:p>The paper provides two illustrations of theorising the social actor model at different levels: at an elementary level by using instantiation to map the model's constructs to a match in the transcript text; and at a higher level where the model enabled the paper to tie together a number of individual phenomena to construct a broader higher\u2010level schema.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Originality\/value<\/jats:title><jats:p>As the social actor model is relatively new, and few guidelines or examples exist, the paper provides rich insights into the difficulties with the application of this model and a solution for coping with these so that other researchers can read of an example that may be similar to their own and therefore guide their work.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec>","DOI":"10.1108\/09593840910937490","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2009,2,28]],"date-time":"2009-02-28T07:06:23Z","timestamp":1235804783000},"page":"51-62","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":12,"title":["A social actor understanding of the institutional structures at play in information systems development"],"prefix":"10.1108","volume":"22","author":[{"given":"Bruce","family":"Rowlands","sequence":"first","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"140","reference":[{"key":"key2022020220261761300_b1","unstructured":"Kling, R., Rosenbaum, H. and Sawyer, S.
