These global\nnetworks give firms the opportunity to gain strategic advantages such as\nthe strengthening of trading partner relationships and the redesigning\nof internal procedures to improve overall efficiency and cost\neffectiveness. The business community, however, has been slow to adopt\ntelecommunications and its enabled technologies \u2013 electronic data\ninterchange (EDI) in particular \u2013 owing to a general lack of\nunderstanding of the benefits available from their effective\nutilization. Describes an education\u2010oriented approach designed to\nencourage greater acceptance of telecommunications and EDI by educating\nuniversity students \u2013 the managers of the future \u2013 about\napplied telecommunications in an international environment. Discusses\nalso the cultural and cross\u2010cultural experiences of the students who\nparticipated in this pilot project.
