{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2026,4,2]],"date-time":"2026-04-02T16:05:54Z","timestamp":1775145954205,"version":"3.50.1"},"reference-count":33,"publisher":"Emerald","issue":"2","license":[{"start":{"date-parts":[[2007,4,10]],"date-time":"2007-04-10T00:00:00Z","timestamp":1176163200000},"content-version":"tdm","delay-in-days":0,"URL":"https:\/\/www.emerald.com\/insight\/site-policies"}],"content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":[],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2007,4,10]]},"abstract":"<jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Purpose<\/jats:title><jats:p><jats:italic>The purpose of this paper is to explore whether the concept of psychological contracts underpinned by relational\/transactional exchanges provides an adequate description of knowledge workers' contracts.<\/jats:italic><\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Design\/methodology\/approach<\/jats:title><jats:p><jats:italic>The research approach uses interviews with ten scientists from within a pre\u2010eminent Australian scientific research and development organization, the Commonwealth Scientific &amp; Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).<\/jats:italic><\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Findings<\/jats:title><jats:p><jats:italic>The research strong evidence of an ideological currency within the psychological contract for this set of knowledge workers.<\/jats:italic><\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Practical implications<\/jats:title><jats:p><jats:italic>The research raises questions over the role of normative occupation\u2010specific beliefs about work, and the sharing of common currency elements by individuals in the same organization within the same occupation.
