The research setting covers five distinct business organizations representing technology industries and knowledge\u2010intensive business services.<\/jats:italic><\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Findings<\/jats:title><jats:p><jats:italic>The paper indicates that even in knowledge\u2010intensive firms a good team spirit and skilful management remain more important than the use of the latest technology. Furthermore, it is maintained that the role of information technology in supporting the decision\u2010making process in knowledge work is often very much overemphasized.
