{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2025,8,2]],"date-time":"2025-08-02T18:03:56Z","timestamp":1754157836033,"version":"3.41.2"},"reference-count":7,"publisher":"Emerald","issue":"4","license":[{"start":{"date-parts":[[2009,11,20]],"date-time":"2009-11-20T00:00:00Z","timestamp":1258675200000},"content-version":"tdm","delay-in-days":0,"URL":"https:\/\/www.emerald.com\/insight\/site-policies"}],"content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":[],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2009,11,20]]},"abstract":"<jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Purpose<\/jats:title><jats:p>The purpose of this paper is to present an example of how the synergy of different competences in students' teams, out\u2010of\u2010the\u2010box thinking style and various motivation factors in a culturally diverse learning environment is the foundation for knowledge construction, driven by the idea generation process and co\u2010creation \u2013 the so\u2010called Medici effect, one of the benchmarks for excellence in eLearning.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Design\/methodology\/approach<\/jats:title><jats:p>Developing this case study in the area of eLearning and Virtual Education Community (VEC) involves passing through various stages: from providing social presence and cooperation of students to co\u2010creation in the eLearning environment by contriving \u201ce\u2010students\u201d in the VEC whose profiles and learning processes are managed by pairs\/teams of real students with different experiences and types of behaviour.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Findings<\/jats:title><jats:p>The paper presents outcomes of the research focused on the formation of the VEC for students who are motivated in sharing common passions and principles, in developing good communicator\u2010and\u2010listener techniques, in studying and creating situations of success.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Practical implications<\/jats:title><jats:p>In order to use and promote this pedagogical approach, enhancement of the desk\u2010top technology is needed in terms of a user\u2010friendly interface for creating a VEC where everyone, including people with special needs, feels comfortable, interested, and motivated to communicate, learn, construct, and share knowledge.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Originality\/value<\/jats:title><jats:p>The original \u201c4A\u201d (attention, actualization, attraction, and action) pedagogical model applied in eLearning is aimed at ensuring students' social and cognitive presence through their e\u2010profiles for self\u2010assessment and positioning, adjusting learning trajectories and monitoring learning results, as well as assessing progress and final outcomes of learning.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec>","DOI":"10.1108\/17415650911009182","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2009,12,5]],"date-time":"2009-12-05T07:16:47Z","timestamp":1259997407000},"page":"215-222","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":6,"title":["eLearning: from social presence to co\u2010creation in virtual education community"],"prefix":"10.1108","volume":"6","author":[{"given":"Ihor","family":"Katernyak","sequence":"first","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Sten","family":"Ekman","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Annalill","family":"Ekman","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Mariya","family":"Sheremet","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Viktoriya","family":"Loboda","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"140","reference":[{"key":"key2022031720351193800_b1","unstructured":"Cooperrider, D.L. et al.
