{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2026,5,6]],"date-time":"2026-05-06T16:10:08Z","timestamp":1778083808073,"version":"3.51.4"},"reference-count":61,"publisher":"Emerald","issue":"4","content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":[],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2025,11,28]]},"abstract":"<jats:sec>\n                    <jats:title>Purpose<\/jats:title>\n                    <jats:p>This paper aims to explore the types of health information sources among first-time mothers, additionally examine sources of health information that perceived as preferences by first-time mothers and lastly understand factors that influence first-time mothers to seek health information from digital sources.<\/jats:p>\n                  <\/jats:sec>\n                  <jats:sec>\n                    <jats:title>Design\/methodology\/approach<\/jats:title>\n                    <jats:p>This study uses a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative interviews and quantitative to explore the preferences and challenges faced by mothers in accessing maternal health information. Descriptive statistical measures, including mean, variance and frequency, were employed, along with inferential statistics such as analysis of variance, to compare the mean differences and analyzed using the Duncan test. A multiple linear regression model was used to determine the factors influencing health information sources among first-time mothers.<\/jats:p>\n                  <\/jats:sec>\n                  <jats:sec>\n                    <jats:title>Findings<\/jats:title>\n                    <jats:p>Respondents from three hospitals completed 201 questionnaires. Most respondents were from Temeke hospital (38.8%), Amana (36.8%) and Kairuki (24.4%). This study found that healthcare professionals (93.0%), family members (83.1%), internet sources (40.3%) and friends (31.3%) were the most important sources of health information sought by first-time mothers. In addition, a statistically significant relationship was observed between information sources and social economic characteristics.<\/jats:p>\n                  <\/jats:sec>\n                  <jats:sec>\n                    <jats:title>Originality\/value<\/jats:title>\n                    <jats:p>Investigating how first-time mothers in Dar es Salaam use digital tools (such as smartphones, social media, apps, websites) to seek health information is timely and innovative.
