A survey of some of these journals shows that while many do provide good coverage and indexing, the selection criteria for the patent specifications are sometimes questionable and bibliographic details are inaccurate or misleading. Standards for the identification of patent documents have been developed by the World Intellectual Property Organization and are in world\u2010wide use by patent offices. Their adoption by abstract journals is strongly recommended.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1108\/eb026823","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2008,1,19]],"date-time":"2008-01-19T07:41:40Z","timestamp":1200728500000},"page":"159-165","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":1,"title":["DOCUMENTATION NOTE"],"prefix":"10.1108","volume":"44","author":[{"given":"BRENDA M.","family":"RIMMER","sequence":"first","affiliation":[]}],"member":"140","reference":[{"journal-title":"Industrial Property","first-page":"492","year":"1986","key":"p_1"},{"volume-title":"Statistics B","year":"1976","author":"Property Industrial","key":"p_2"}],"container-title":["Journal of Documentation"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/www.emerald.com\/insight\/content\/doi\/10.1108\/eb026823\/full\/xml","content-type":"application\/xml","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/www.emerald.com\/insight\/content\/doi\/10.1108\/eb026823\/full\/html","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,7,24]],"date-time":"2025-07-24T23:11:26Z","timestamp":1753398686000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"http:\/\/www.emerald.com\/jd\/article\/44\/2\/159-165\/197047"}},"subtitle":["ABSTRACT JOURNALS: A SURVEY OF PATENT COVERAGE"],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[1988,2,1]]},"references-count":2,"journal-issue":{"issue":"2","published-print":{"date-parts":[[1988,2,1]]}},"alternative-id":["10.1108\/eb026823"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1108\/eb026823","relation":{},"ISSN":["0022-0418"],"issn-type":[{"type":"print","value":"0022-0418"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[1988,2,1]]}}}
