This paper examines the adoption of AI-based employee experience chatbots by employees.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-subheading\">Design\/methodology\/approach<\/jats:title><jats:p>The proposed model is developed using behavioral reasoning theory and empirically validated by surveying 1,130 employees and data was analyzed with PLS-SEM.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-subheading\">Findings<\/jats:title><jats:p>This research presents the \u201creasons for\u201d and \u201creasons against\u201d for the acceptance of AI-based employee experience chatbots. The \u201creasons for\u201d are \u2013 personalization, interactivity, perceived intelligence and perceived anthropomorphism and the \u201creasons against\u201d are perceived risk, language barrier and technological anxiety. It is found that \u201creasons for\u201d have a positive association with attitude and adoption intention and \u201creasons against\u201d have a negative association. Employees' values for openness to change are positively associated with \u201creasons for\u201d and do not affect attitude and \u201creasons against\u201d.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-subheading\">Originality\/value<\/jats:title><jats:p>This is the first study exploring employees' attitude and adoption intention toward AI-based EEX chatbots using behavioral reasoning
