It investigates the use of information by the community and its function in different purposes of everyday life, such as making decisions for livelihood security, fostering social cohesion and well-being and facilitating access to social benefits.<\/jats:p>\n                  <\/jats:sec>\n                  <jats:sec>\n                    <jats:title>Design\/methodology\/approach<\/jats:title>\n                    <jats:p>This research utilised an interpretative phenomenological approach. Ethnographic fieldwork was used to conduct focus groups and interviews with community members. Participants were asked about their various information needs, the sources they rely on and their interactions with these sources in daily life. The analysis centred on identifying themes that shape their use of information.<\/jats:p>\n                  <\/jats:sec>\n                  <jats:sec>\n                    <jats:title>Findings<\/jats:title>\n                    <jats:p>The study found that in the daily lives of this fishing community, the perceived value of information is influenced by key factors, including reliable access through formal institutions, accuracy, affordability and ease of access, the capacity to reduce uncertainty and clarify outcomes, societal acceptance, shared benefits and educational relevance. These elements play a pivotal role in shaping the perceived value of information within the community.<\/jats:p>\n                  <\/jats:sec>\n                  <jats:sec>\n                    <jats:title>Originality\/value<\/jats:title>\n                    <jats:p>This research is the first to investigate the perceived value of information within a marginalised community in a developing nation. It highlights that information solutions tailored to the unique needs and preferences of such communities can offer sustainable empowerment, providing benefits that extend beyond conventional material-focused interventions.<\/jats:p>\n
