{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2025,8,12]],"date-time":"2025-08-12T22:48:48Z","timestamp":1755038928411,"version":"3.41.2"},"reference-count":10,"publisher":"Emerald","issue":"1","license":[{"start":{"date-parts":[[2011,2,8]],"date-time":"2011-02-08T00:00:00Z","timestamp":1297123200000},"content-version":"tdm","delay-in-days":0,"URL":"https:\/\/www.emerald.com\/insight\/site-policies"}],"content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":[],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2011,2,8]]},"abstract":"<jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Purpose<\/jats:title><jats:p>The purpose of this paper is to develop innovative geometry for gears aiming low power loss and easy manufacturing.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Design\/methodology\/approach<\/jats:title><jats:p>New gear profiles were developed and studied, and gears were built accordingly and then tested using an FZG machine.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Findings<\/jats:title><jats:p>Results from the experimental tests revealed the influence of the profile modifications on the operating temperature, thus on the efficiency of gears (in terms of power loss).<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Research limitations\/implications<\/jats:title><jats:p>Studied cases were limited to experimental gear models compliant to the FZG machine.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Practical implications<\/jats:title><jats:p>Low\u2010loss gears can be produced using common technologies and tools. Its design includes power loss minimization besides mechanical strength. The new gears are more environmentally friendly and can operate with lower power consumption, lower temperature, increasing gear and gear oil life.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Originality\/value<\/jats:title><jats:p>This work contributes to the development of the \u201clow\u2010loss gears\u201d concept, adapting it to low\u2010cost manufacturing technologies.
