Several benchmark examples of two\u2010dimensional and plate bending problems are solved and compared with the three\u2010dimensional NNRPIM formulation. The obtained results are compared with the available exact solutions and the finite element method (FEM) solutions.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Findings<\/jats:title><jats:p>The developed NNRPIM approach is a good alternative to the FEM for the solution of dynamic problems, once the obtained results with the EFGM shows a high similarity with the obtained FEM results and for the majority of the studied examples the NNRPIM results are more close to the exact solution results.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Research limitations\/implications<\/jats:title><jats:p>Comparing the FEM and the NNRPIM, the computational cost of the NNRPIM is higher.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-heading\">Originality\/value<\/jats:title><jats:p>The paper demonstrates extension of the NNRPIM to the dynamic analysis of two\u2010dimensional, three\u2010dimensional and bending plate problems. The elimination of the shear\u2010locking phenomenon in the NNRPIM plate bending formulation.
