{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2026,3,9]],"date-time":"2026-03-09T13:43:06Z","timestamp":1773063786978,"version":"3.50.1"},"reference-count":49,"publisher":"Emerald","issue":"2","license":[{"start":{"date-parts":[[2020,3,30]],"date-time":"2020-03-30T00:00:00Z","timestamp":1585526400000},"content-version":"tdm","delay-in-days":0,"URL":"https:\/\/www.emerald.com\/insight\/site-policies"}],"content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":["LODJ"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2020,3,30]]},"abstract":"<jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-subheading\">Purpose<\/jats:title><jats:p>The purpose of this paper is to explore the mediating effect of the work\u2013family conflict in the relation between ethical leadership and job satisfaction.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-subheading\">Design\/methodology\/approach<\/jats:title><jats:p>A questionnaire was answered by 234 nursing professionals working in Portuguese public health institutions.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-subheading\">Findings<\/jats:title><jats:p>Regression analyses indicate that there is a positive relationship between ethical leadership and satisfaction and a negative relationship between ethical leadership and the nurse's work\u2013family conflict. Furthermore, it was revealed that the work\u2013family conflict mediated (partially) the relationship between ethical leadership and job satisfaction.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title content-type=\"abstract-subheading\">Research limitations\/implications<\/jats:title><jats:p>Ethical leadership was measured by assessing the nurses' perceptions of their leaders' character.
