Maria is currently 65\u2009years old and started her transition in her early 50\u2009s. This study aims to examine Maria\u2019s life trajectory and how she accomplished her (late) coming out and (happy) transition.<\/jats:p>\n               <\/jats:sec>\n               <jats:sec>\n                  <jats:title>Design\/methodology\/approach<\/jats:title>\n                  <jats:p>The authors adopted McAdams\u2019 (1985) methodology for analyzing life stories, which divides a person\u2019s life into chapters.<\/jats:p>\n               <\/jats:sec>\n               <jats:sec>\n                  <jats:title>Findings<\/jats:title>\n                  <jats:p>Maria identified four chapters in her life trajectory: (a) \u201c\u2018Who am I?\u2019 A childhood and adolescence of secrecy and self-doubt\u201d; (b) \u201cFinding comfort in conforming to cis\/heteronormativity\u201d; (c) \u201cComing out: A sense of relief and authenticity\u201d; and (d) \u201c\u2018Finally being who I am\u2019\u2014a woman respected and satisfied with life.\u201d Maria\u2019s awareness of her \u201cfinite lifespan\u201d and \u201ctime left\u201d influenced her coming out and transition. Her constraints earlier in life heightened the significance and immediacy of time horizons and the opportunity to experience an authentic gender identity before she dies.<\/jats:p>\n               <\/jats:sec>\n               <jats:sec>\n                  <jats:title>Originality\/value<\/jats:title>\n                  <jats:p>This study uniquely highlights age as a privilege in the transgender transition process, showing how awareness of a finite lifespan can drive late-life coming out and transition. Maria\u2019s story challenges traditional aging narratives, demonstrating resilience and the potential for finding meaning and purpose, despite lifelong adversity.<\/jats:p>\n
