The mechanism of how different dynamics of <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">H<\/jats:styled-content>es1 expression is controlled remains to be determined. Here, we found that the seed sequence of micro<jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">RNA<\/jats:styled-content>\u20109 (mi<jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">R<\/jats:styled-content>\u20109) is complementary to the 3\u2032\u2010<jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">UTR<\/jats:styled-content> sequence of <jats:italic><jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">H<\/jats:styled-content>es1<\/jats:italic> m<jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">RNA<\/jats:styled-content>. Mi<jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">R<\/jats:styled-content>\u20109 is highly expressed in the ventricular zone of the developing brain, which contains neural stem cells, but it is not expressed in the roof plate or the floor plate. Over\u2010expression of miR\u20109 negatively regulates the Hes1 protein expression by interacting with the 3\u2032\u2010<jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">UTR<\/jats:styled-content> of <jats:italic><jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">H<\/jats:styled-content>es1<\/jats:italic> m<jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">RNA<\/jats:styled-content>, thereby inducing cell cycle exit and neuronal differentiation. Conversely, knockdown of mi<jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">R<\/jats:styled-content>\u20109 inhibits neuronal differentiation. Furthermore, knockdown of mi<jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">R<\/jats:styled-content>\u20109 inhibits the oscillatory expression of <jats:italic><jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">H<\/jats:styled-content>es1<\/jats:italic> m<jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">RNA<\/jats:styled-content> in neural stem cells. These results indicate that mi<jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">R<\/jats:styled-content>\u20109 regulates the proliferation and differentiation of neural stem cells by controlling the dynamics of <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">H<\/jats:styled-content>es1 expression in the developing
