These twenty strains of <jats:italic>N. gonorrhoeae<\/jats:italic> harbored the 4.5\u2010megadalton (Mdal) beta\u2010lactamase\u2010producing plasmids and the 24.5\u2010Mdal conjugative plasmids. We found that only three of twenty <jats:italic>N. gonorrhoeae<\/jats:italic> strains showed a detectable conjugation frequency (&gt;10<jats:sup>\u20105<\/jats:sup>) with <jats:italic>N. meningitidis<\/jats:italic> as the recipient although all strains were capable of mobilizing beta\u2010lactamase\u2010producing plasmids to <jats:italic>N. gonorrhoeae<\/jats:italic> and to <jats:italic>Escherichia coli<\/jats:italic>.
