Serum concentrations of myeloperoxidase, malondialdehyde, vitamins A, C and E, catalase and total antioxidant were measured and compared with an independent group by <jats:italic>t<\/jats:italic>\u2010test.<\/jats:p><jats:p> <jats:bold>Results:<\/jats:bold>\u2002Serum myeloperoxidase, vitamins A and E, catalase and total antioxidant parameters were not statistically different among the groups (<jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic>\u2003&gt;\u20030.05). Serum vitamin C concentrations were significantly lower and malondialdehyde concentrations were significantly higher in cases of XFS when compared with the control group (<jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic>\u2003=\u20030.008 and <jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic>\u2003=\u20030.002, respectively).<\/jats:p><jats:p> <jats:bold>Conclusion:<\/jats:bold>\u2002An altered oxidant\u2013antioxidant balance may play a role in the pathogenesis of
