At regular intervals it was changed to a solution containing 12% O<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> and 5% CO<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> in N<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>. Alternatively, perfusion with 5% CO<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> in O<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> was maintained during the entire experiment and sodium arachidonate was infused (5 to 15 \u03bcg\/min) at intervals.
