{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2026,3,31]],"date-time":"2026-03-31T09:18:20Z","timestamp":1774948700760,"version":"3.50.1"},"reference-count":14,"publisher":"Wiley","issue":"4","license":[{"start":{"date-parts":[[2012,7,19]],"date-time":"2012-07-19T00:00:00Z","timestamp":1342656000000},"content-version":"vor","delay-in-days":8388,"URL":"http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/termsAndConditions#vor"}],"content-domain":{"domain":["bpspubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com"],"crossmark-restriction":true},"short-container-title":["British J Pharmacology"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[1989,8]]},"abstract":"<jats:p><jats:list list-type=\"explicit-label\">\n<jats:list-item><jats:p>The role of nitric oxide (NO) in the regulation of the vascular tone of the coronary circulation of the Langendorff\u2010perfused rabbit heart was investigated.<\/jats:p><\/jats:list-item>\n<jats:list-item><jats:p>N<jats:sup>G<\/jats:sup>\u2010monomethyl\u2010L\u2010arginine (L\u2010NMMA; 10\u2013100 \u03bc<jats:sc>m<\/jats:sc>), a specific inhibitor of NO formation from L\u2010arginine (L\u2010Arg), but not its D\u2010enantiomer (D\u2010NMMA; 100 \u03bc<jats:sc>m<\/jats:sc>) produced a dose\u2010related, sustained increase in the coronary perfusion pressure (CPP). In addition, L\u2010NMMA inhibited the vasodilator responses of acetylcholine (ACh), unmasking in some instances its direct vasoconstrictor effect.
