The lesion is the product of febrile status epilepticus, which damages Ammon's Horn by convulsive hypoxia. In all cases a specific immaturity in the affected hemisphere is required. In roughly one third of all cases of temporal lobe epilepsy the patient is set up to convulse by a simple gene of transient expression. The protracted duration of the critical seizure is a major determinant. Animal analogues are used to illustrate the hypothesis.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>R\u00c9SUM\u00c9<\/jats:title><jats:p>'apr\u00e8s une analyse critique de '\u00e9tiologie de '\u00e9pilepsie du lobe temporal, nous pensons qu'un groupe de sujets pr\u00e9sente une neuropathologie sp\u00e9cifique, c'est\u2010\u00e0\u2010dire une scl\u00e9rose temporale mesiale. Dans un tiers des cas environ '\u00e9pilepsie du lobe temporal, les convulsions sont d\u00fbes \u00e0 un gene simple \u00e0 expression transitoire. La dur\u00e9e de la crise est un facteur essentiel.
