One of the key lessons from food processing and related industries is that without being designated as an essential service and targeted stimulus packages, the food industry could have fallen victim to the COVID\u201019 crisis. Although the social and economic impacts of the interventions are not clear, being designated as an essential service was likely far more important to the food industry than the targeted stimulus packages. The pandemic and shutdown orders had a considerable production reallocation effect. Some processors have seen temporary closure and reduced capacity utilization. On the upside, disruptions in the food processing sector have not been as severe as in non\u2010essential sectors. The food processing sector has proven to be relatively stable during the pandemic \u2013 food was still processed and delivered to consumers and food price increases were minimal in most cases given the scale of the shock. Moving forward, because COVID\u201019 is a global crisis, internationally targeted and coordinated efforts to tackle the virus could place the industry on a strong trajectory towards economic recovery and growth.<\/jats:p><jats:p><jats:bold>R\u00e9sum\u00e9<\/jats:bold><\/jats:p><jats:p>Dans cet article, j'explore les activit\u00e9s \u00e9conomiques de l'industrie de la transformation des aliments pendant la pand\u00e9mie COVID\u201019. L'une des principales le\u00e7ons tir\u00e9es de la transformation des aliments et des industries connexes est que sans \u00eatre d\u00e9sign\u00e9e comme un service essentiel et vis\u00e9e par des plans de relance cibl\u00e9s, l'industrie alimentaire aurait pu \u00eatre victime de la crise du COVID\u201019. Bien que les impacts sociaux et \u00e9conomiques des interventions ne soient pas clairs, \u00eatre d\u00e9sign\u00e9 comme un service essentiel \u00e9tait probablement beaucoup plus important pour l'industrie alimentaire que les plans de relance cibl\u00e9s. La pand\u00e9mie et les ordres d'arr\u00eat ont eu un effet consid\u00e9rable de r\u00e9allocation de la production. Certains transformateurs ont connu des fermetures temporaires et une utilisation r\u00e9duite de leurs capacit\u00e9s.
