{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2026,1,8]],"date-time":"2026-01-08T10:46:51Z","timestamp":1767869211235,"version":"3.49.0"},"reference-count":47,"publisher":"Wiley","issue":"1","license":[{"start":{"date-parts":[[2008,9,25]],"date-time":"2008-09-25T00:00:00Z","timestamp":1222300800000},"content-version":"vor","delay-in-days":0,"URL":"http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/termsAndConditions#vor"}],"content-domain":{"domain":["resjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com"],"crossmark-restriction":true},"short-container-title":["Agri and Forest Entomology"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2009,2]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>Abstract<\/jats:title>\n                  <jats:p>\n                    1\u2003A new method for the physical protection of conifer seedlings against feeding damage by\n                    <jats:italic>Hylobius abietis<\/jats:italic>\n                    (L.), is described and evaluated in field trials in Swedish forest plantations.\n                  <\/jats:p>\n                  <jats:p>2\u2003The lower 60% of the stem of the seedling is protected by the Conniflex coating, consisting of fine sand (grain size\u2003=\u20030.2\u2003mm) embedded in an acrylate dispersion that remains flexible after drying.<\/jats:p>\n                  <jats:p>3\u2003Seedlings are treated in the nursery by a large\u2010scale application procedure involving four steps: (i) spraying the seedlings with water; (ii) application of fixative to the lower sections of the stems, (iii) application of fine sand to the fixative; and (iv) drying of the fixative.<\/jats:p>\n                  <jats:p>4\u2003A field experiment over three seasons demonstrated a significant increase in survival for coated seedlings compared with untreated seedlings. The survival rate increased from 29% to 97% for Scots pine and from 26% to 86% for Norway spruce.
