Y\u2010<jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">STR<\/jats:styled-content> markers are thus a valuable tool for analyzing these samples. The aim of this project was to compare three Y\u2010<jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">STR<\/jats:styled-content> commercial kits by analyzing their amplification performance on casework samples. Overall, 247 trace samples were analyzed with a Yfiler<jats:sup>\u00ae<\/jats:sup> Plus <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">PCR<\/jats:styled-content> Amplification Kit (Applied Biosystems), PowerPlex<jats:sup>\u00ae<\/jats:sup> Y23 (Promega<jats:sup>\u00ae<\/jats:sup>) System and Amp<jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">FLSTR<\/jats:styled-content><jats:sup>\u00ae<\/jats:sup> Yfiler\u2122 <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">PCR<\/jats:styled-content> Amplification Kit (Applied Biosystems). Comparing the amplification performance of the three kits, the first two were significantly more sensitive than the latter (<jats:italic>p<\/jats:italic> &lt; 0.001). For samples, with a male <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">DNA<\/jats:styled-content> quantity less than 0.5 ng, the PowerPlex Y23<jats:sup>\u00ae<\/jats:sup> kit was the most sensitive and best performing kit, followed by the Yfiler<jats:sup>\u00ae<\/jats:sup> Plus kit (<jats:italic>p<\/jats:italic> = 0.009).
