In all six, histological examination of the solitary hydronephroses revealed dilatation of the nephrons with no evidence of atrophy and little fibrosis. Tubular atrophy and interstitial fibrosis occurred in the open hydronephroses of six control animals in which the contralateral kidney was not removed.<\/jats:p>\n                  <jats:p>This work was supported by a research grant from the Post\u2010Graduate Committee in Medicine, the University of Sydney.
