Weight trajectories (0\u20134 years of age) were identified using model\u2010based clustering and categorized as \u201cnormal weight gain,\u201d\u00a0\u201cweight gain during infancy,\u201d\u00a0\u201cweight gain during childhood\u201d and \u201cpersistent weight gain.\u201d<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Measurements<\/jats:title><jats:p>Differences in DHEAS levels at age 7 between the four weight trajectories were analysed through analysis of covariance (ANCOVA), adjusted for birth weight (BW) and body mass index (BMI).<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Results<\/jats:title><jats:p>In the crude analysis, compared with the \u201cnormal weight gain\u201d trajectory (5.53 (95% CI: 5.10\u20135.98]\u00a0\u00b5mol\/L), DHEAS levels were significantly higher in children in the \u201cpersistent weight gain\u201d (8.75 [95% CI: 7.23\u201310.49]\u2009\u00b5mol\/L, <jats:italic>p<\/jats:italic>\u2009&lt;\u2009.001] and in children in the \u201cweight gain during infancy\u201d trajectories (7.68 [95% CI: 6.22\u20139.49]\u2009\u00b5mol\/L, <jats:italic>p<\/jats:italic>\u2009=\u2009.021]\u00a0and marginally significantly higher in children in the \u201cweight gain during childhood\u201d trajectory (6.89 (95% CI: 5.98\u20138.00)\u2009\u00b5mol\/L; <jats:italic>p<\/jats:italic>\u2009=\u2009.052).
