{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2026,2,5]],"date-time":"2026-02-05T13:04:07Z","timestamp":1770296647799,"version":"3.49.0"},"reference-count":37,"publisher":"Wiley","issue":"11","license":[{"start":{"date-parts":[[2007,9,19]],"date-time":"2007-09-19T00:00:00Z","timestamp":1190160000000},"content-version":"vor","delay-in-days":0,"URL":"http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/termsAndConditions#vor"}],"content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":["Clin Experimental Allergy"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2007,11]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>Summary<\/jats:title><jats:p><jats:bold>Background\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/jats:bold> Characterized native and recombinant <jats:italic>Hevea brasiliensis<\/jats:italic> (rHev b) natural rubber latex (NRL) allergens are available to assess patient allergen sensitization profiles.<\/jats:p><jats:p><jats:bold>Objective\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/jats:bold> Quantification of individual IgE responses to the spectrum of documented NRL allergens and evaluation of cross\u2010reactive carbohydrate determinants (CCDs) for more definitive diagnosis.<\/jats:p><jats:p><jats:bold>Methods\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/jats:bold> Sera of 104 healthcare workers (HCW; 51 German, 21 Portuguese, 32 American), 31 spina bifida patients (SB; 11 German, 20 Portuguese) and 10 Portuguese with multiple surgeries (MS) were analysed for allergen\u2010specific IgE antibody (sIgE) to NRL, single Hev b allergens and CCDs with ImmunoCAP<jats:sup>\u2122<\/jats:sup> technology.<\/jats:p><jats:p><jats:bold>Results\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/jats:bold> In all patient groups rHev b 5\u2010sIgE concentrations were the most pronounced. Hev b 2, 5, 6.01 and 13 were identified as the major allergens in HCW and combined with Hev b 1 and Hev b 3 in SB. In MS Hev b 1 displayed an intermediate relevance. Different sIgE antibody levels to native <jats:italic>Hevea brasiliensis<\/jats:italic> (nHev b) 2 and rHev b 6.01 allowed discrimination of SB with clinical relevant latex allergy vs. those with latex sensitization. Sensitization profiles of German, Portuguese and American patients were equivalent. rHev b 5, 6.01 and nHev b 13 combined detected 100% of the latex\u2010allergic HCW and 80.1% of the SB. Only 8.3% of the sera showed sIgE response to CCDs.<\/jats:p><jats:p><jats:bold>Conclusions\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/jats:bold> Hev b 1, 2, 5, 6.01 and 13 were identified as the major Hev b allergens and they should be present in standardized latex extracts and <jats:italic>in vitro<\/jats:italic> allergosorbents. CCDs are only of minor relevance in patients with clinical relevant latex allergy.
