Math."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2006]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>We formulate a variational problem on a Riemannian manifold<jats:italic>M<\/jats:italic>whose solutions are piecewise smooth geodesies that best fit a given data set of time labelled points in<jats:italic>M<\/jats:italic>.
