The difference form of Langevin\u2019s equation is used to perform physically accurate simulations of a particle under the influence of a trapping potential and is used to estimate trapping probabilities at discrete points in the parameter space. Gaussian radial basis functions combined with kd-tree based partitioning of the parameter space are then used to generate simplified models of trapping probability. We show that the proposed approach is computationally efficient in estimating the trapping probability and that the estimated probability using the simplified models is sufficiently close to the probability estimates from offline simulation data.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1115\/1.3130784","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2009,6,4]],"date-time":"2009-06-04T22:25:47Z","timestamp":1244154347000},"update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1115\/crossmarkpolicy-asme","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":22,"title":["Generating Simplified Trapping Probability Models From Simulation of Optical Tweezers System"],"prefix":"10.1115","volume":"9","author":[{"given":"Ashis Gopal","family":"Banerjee","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Mechanical Engineering and Institute for Systems Research, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742"}]},{"given":"Arvind","family":"Balijepalli","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Mechanical Engineering and Institute for Systems Research, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742; Precision Engineering Division, Manufacturing Engineering Laboratory, National Institute of Standards and Technology, Gaithersburg, MD 20899"}]},{"given":"Satyandra K.","family":"Gupta","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Mechanical Engineering and Institute for Systems Research, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742"}]},{"given":"Thomas W.","family":"LeBrun","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Precision Engineering Division, Manufacturing Engineering Laboratory, National Institute of Standards and Technology, Gaithersburg, MD 20899"}]}],"member":"33","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2009,5,20]]},"reference":[{"issue":"2","key":"2019100515055399500_c1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","first-page":"569","DOI":"10.1016\/S0006-3495(92)81860-X","article-title":"Forces of a Single-Beam Gradient Laser Trap on a Dielectric Sphere in the Ray Optics Regime","volume":"61","author":"Ashkin","journal-title":"Biophys.
